There is nothing more exhilarating than the feeling of adrenaline rush. And it is for this drug free high feeling that men and women alike become engrossed to the extreme sport of snowboarding.

Snowboarding is a dangerous sport. Riders slide down on a snowy terrain with cliffs, deep snow, ravines, rock gaps and bumps that anybody expects from a snow-capped mountain. Although most Alaskans and residents of Colorado and the rocky mountain regions have been snowboarding for decades, it was only in the late 80's that snowboarding has been considered as a "sport," and thus, the birth of snowboard competition in different areas of the world.

Nonetheless, snowboard enthusiasts push snowboarding to be part of the Olympic Games. The International Snowboarding Federation (ISF) established a set of standards for snowboarding competition in 1998 Olympic Games.

But the ISF rules were not accepted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). IOC recognized only the Federation International Ski (FIS) as the sport's official representative or governing body. Snowboard riders objected to this. They believed that FIS is 'ski specific'; it doesn't have rules for snowboarding. Because of this, many snowboarding world champions boycotted the Olympics. To date, snowboard riders may join the snowboard riding Olympic Games only if they are willing to follow the guidelines in skiing.

In Alaska, they have this snowboard competition that the Alaskans dubbed as King of the Hill. Winners of this extreme snowboard competition receive trophy and cash prizes. Snowboarders all over the world choose to join these kinds of snowboard competition rather than the Olympic Games. To snowboard riders, these small snowboard competition models retain the old rules aptly fit for snowboarding. The favorite places for a snowboard competition, aside from the Alaskan mountains, are the Alps, Rocky Mountains of North America, North Lake Tahoe, Ontario, Canada, and other parts of Europe.
